About This Item
[Washington, D.C.], 1876. First edition. Very good. 8vo. 21, blank, [1]pp. Disbound. In 1874, George Cannon defeated Robert Baskin for a seat in Congress from Utah. Baskin, a member of the anti-Mormon Liberal party, challenged the outcome with the U. S. Congress, claiming that Cannon was not a US citizen and that he was also a Mormon and a practicing polygamist. Cannon presented a spirited defense. Congress subsequnetly ordered that the papers surrounding the case be published in 1876. A scarce anti-Mormon document in very nice condition. 44th Congress, 1st Session. House of Representatives. Mis. Doc. No. 166. Paper slighly browned. Still, a very good copy.
