About This Item
1925. 3. edition. Vienna, Schroll 1925. 31 : 26 cm. 32 pages with 23 illustrations and 24 coloured plates with many illustrations. Original boards-portfolio, front cover with coloured mounted illustration. Very nice collection of works from participants of the "Jugendkunst"-course at the School of applied Arts in Vienna, founded by Franz Cizek. The plates show silhouettes, clothing, furniture, flowers and trees, birds, countryside, vignettes, boxes, calenders, a.a. With an detailed instruction for cutting silhouettes. Franz Ciek (1865-1946) is considered an outstanding reformer of art education. His Viennese youth art classes, which he founded in 1897 in close proximity to the Viennese Secessionists, became the center of a reform movement with lasting international impact. The appreciation and encouragement of children's creativity, which was able to develop in a supportive, enthusiastic environment, shook the authoritarian regulatory concepts of public education. Ciek's practical artistic work with children and his very successful exhibitions in Great Britain and the USA were noticed and carried forward to the present day, by Maria Montessori and the English Child Art movement as well as, to this day, by reform movements in Canada and the USA. - - Binding a bit rubbed. - LKJ I, 264; Stuckvilla I, 320.
