About This Item

Garden City, NY: Doubleday, Page & Co, 1917. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Plus/No Jacket. 8vo. [viii], 190, [1] pp.. Sharp First Edition, First Issue of this classic with all required points, (gap between "Y" and "e" in "Years" on page 4, line 8 and missing "l" from "goldenrod" on page 169). Bound in light brown illustrated paper-covered boards with a tan back-strip with titles in gilt. Square, tight and clean throughout with off-white unfoxed pages. Mild edge-wear. Some scattered spots of soiling to edges and surface but fairly minor. Spine gilt dulled. Still very well preserved with strong joints. Beautiful longer presentation by Morley on the front end-paper, "This is E.A. Lapham's copy, and signed for him with respects from Christopher Morley. 47 Street - Nov. 24, 1939". Small bookseller label from the iconic Gotham Book Mart on the bottom of the rear paste-down. Comes in a custom cloth dust-wrapper, (lacking original), with titles in gilt upon a brown leather spine label, as well as a custom slip case. A most handsome collectable copy.

Synopsis

Although my name appears on the title page, the real author of this book is Miss Helen McGill (now Mrs. Roger Mifflin), who told me the story with her own inimitable vivacity. And on her behalf I want to send to you these few words of acknowledgment.
