Civil War: Confederate slave descent through Union lines. 7/7/1863 Vicksburg Mississippi Three days after Confederate forces surrendered to the Union army under Grant, Confederates in Vicksburg were given a parole & pass. In this document Thomas a slave belonging to Lieut Thomas S.McLane, 41st GA Regiment, was given a pass to go through Union lines & join his master. "Vicksburg July 7 1863 The Black Boy Servant to Lieut Mclane 41st" Rgt has permission to go with his master through the lines" By order of Maj Genl McPherson L.S. Willard.
