Ends and corners minutely rubbed, spine a little darkened through the jacket, some few spots to edges only, rear hinge superficially cracked, a very smart copy in very good condition indeed, with the dust jacket tanned at the spine panel, some faint marks, small chips or tears to a few corners, 3 mm closed tear from bottom of front panel, small portion of repair inside the head of spine panel. First edition, first impression. Copies in the dust jacket are very scarce. "Up to the last moment [Forster] had been assailed by doubts and despairs about his novel, but its reception removed all his fears. The book suited the moment, and friends and reviewers alike called it a masterpiece and his finest achievement" (P. N. Furbank, E. M. Forster: A Life, II, p. 123).
