London: Printed for J. Johnson and Co., 1814. [Didactic Novel] SECOND EDITION. Complete in four volumes. Octavo (18 x 11 x 11cm), pp.[8] 418 [2]; pp.[4] 431 [3]; pp.[4] 400 [2]; pp.[4] 388 [2]. Contemporary half marbled calf, with gilt titles to red labels and gilt ruling to spines. Marbled paper over boards. Light toning and spotting throughout. A few gatherings slightly proud, but generally crisp and clean. Quite heavy wear to boards, but spines remain pleasing, with some chipping to head-cap of volume III, and upper joint starting. Very good. One of Edgeworth's later novels, containing the earnest message that friendship between equals should be cultivated, and nepotism avoided.
