About This Item
1928 hardcover as pictured. This single volume contains all four books of The Peasants quartet, the classic novels by Polish nobelist Wladislaw Reymont, detailing life in late 19th century Poland. The work's originality stems from a detailed presentation of rural customs and characters. The story of the individual lives of a handful of families is combined with the cycle of death and rebirth of nature. Translation by Michael Dziewicki. Binding is intact but is lifting away from the guard at half title page. Green cloth boards with black and gold stamping are faded over spine and edges with wear and fraying at head and tail of spine and at corners. Stain on rear cover. Pencil marking on FEP. Inscription on half title. Text is lightly tanned but appears otherwise clean and unmarked. No dust jacket. Your purchase helps support our small village library. s OD3
