Binding is tight, sturdy, and square; very light wear to edges of blue cloth boards, light soil smudge on front board, minor toning to spine; stamped white titling/decoration on front board and spine remains bold illustrations and text also very good; bookseller's tag (H.W. Fisher & Co. of Philadelphia) on rear paste-down. Green linen dust jacket (not issued with book) is lightly toned over spine, leather title tag is chipped, gilt titling and "First Issue 1914" at foot a little dulled but otherwise clearly legible. Ships from Dinkytown in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Synopsis

Penrod is a collection of comic sketches by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Booth Tarkington that was first published in 1914. The book follows the trials and misadventures of Penrod Schofield, an eleven-year-old boy growing up in the pre-World War I Midwestern United States, in a similar vein to Tom Sawyer. Penrod establishes the characters and the relationships between them who go on to appear in two further books, Penrod and Sam (1916) and Penrod Jashber (1929).
