Penned by an influential scholar who was key to the development of medieval history in academia. Rebound in a smart buckram binding. William Dugdale was an English antiquary and herald. He wrote many historical and heraldic works during his lifetime including 'Monasticon Anglicanum', 'History of St Paul's Cathedral' and 'Baronage of England'. This copy is lacking the title page and begins at the Latin dedication to the Duke of Norfolk. With the preface in English and the main body of the work in Latin. This was Dugdale's final work and begins with the Parliament summoned in 1265. In 'The Bibliographer's Manual of English Literature' William Thomas Lowndes notes that this is a 'highly useful work, containing some names not included in the baronage'. ESTC No. R228678. This copy has a 26 page index alike to this one. As this copy is lacking its title page there are no further identifiable issue points. Condition: Rebound, in a smart buckram binding. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear. Lacking the title page. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age toned, heavier to edges. Minor chips to the edges of the occasional leaf. With instances of scattered spotting. Overall Condition: Very Good.
