Gilt signature of author on front cover is still VG. No inscriptions or annotations. Inside front cover is an attractive ex libris bookplate of Mill Hill School (with some inked figures above) and neat little sticker of 'John:. Booksellers. Oxford '. Attractive black and white chapter-head wood-engravings by Reynolds Stone. 8vo - over 7 3/4 " - 9 3/4 " tall. 169pp. The chapter titles are: The Pagan Gown; Service; Happiness; Education; Beauty; Death; Memory; Individuals; The Artist; Style; Words; Giving and Receiving; Women's Education; Mutability; Love; Sorrow; Choice and Toleration; Travel; Courage & Old Age with many of these essays drawing on her experiences of other lands. A foreword & epilogue are also written by the author. A collection of essays most of which are not travel related.
