About This Item
2 volumes, engraved portrait frontispieces, wood engravings and maps, some folding. (8vo) original gilt decorated green cloth. Light wear to cloth, corners bumped; erasure marks on flyleaves from removal of previous owner's name, normal aging and browning; very good. A nice set. One of the Union Army's great heroes in the Civil War. He was ruthless in attacks on the Confederacy his destruction of Atlanta made him both feared and hated in the South. After serving with distinction in the Civil War, most notably as commander of the Union cavalry, Sheridan was transferred west, where he oversaw the settling of the Indians on reservations. Some feel Sheridan was hostile to Native Americans, and that showed in his treatment of them. He eventually rose to command the United States Army.
