About This Item

New York, NY Horace Liveright, Inc. , 1931. Hardcover First Trade Edition (1931), unstated in accordance with Liveright's customary practice. There was a Limited Edition which preceeded it. Good: Shows moderate wear to the extremities, with some fraying of the black cloth over boards at the corner tips and head and heel of the backstrip; moderate rubbing to the panels and some soiling to same; former owner's gift inscription at the front free endpaper and an inked price at the upper corner of same. The binding is square and secure; the text is clean. Free of underlining, hi-lighting, notations, or marginalia. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. A well-loved copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing considerable wear and some minor flaws. A sturdy copy with a clean text. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. Folio (11.9 x 9 x 0.55 inches). 77 pages. Profusely illustrated with Arno's erotically tinged duotone illustrations. Language: English. Weight: 1 pound, 15.2 ounces. First Trade Edition (1931), unstated in accordance with Liveright's customary practice. There was a Limited Edition which preceeded it. Hardback: Lacks DJ. The book contains 77 pages of 11 by 8-inch cartoons which appeared in the New Yorker magazine from the 1920s through the early 60s. Arno's cartoons drew America's ruling class as unpleasant, unlikable, sometimes awful people, reducing them to pompous, often sexually avaricious, arrogant fools. He saw himself as an insider, as one of them.
