About This Item

New York: Platt & Munk, Publishers. Very Good. 1940. Trade Edition. Paperback. Color Illustrations; This is an oversized paperback book with illustrated self covers and stapled spine. The book is in Very Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. There is some tearing to the bottom spine of the book cover. The covers have some ground-in dirt. The text pages are generally clean and bright, though there are occasional spots of foxing throughout and some light generalized toning to the pages. "For the next 50 years, Burgess steadily wrote books that were published around the world in many languages, including French, Gaelic, German, Italian, Spanish, and Swedish. Collaborating with him was his illustrator and friend Harrison Cady of New York and Rockport, Massachusetts. Peter Rabbit was created by British author and illustrator Beatrix Potter, prompting Burgess to note, "I like to think that Miss Potter gave Peter a name known the world over, while I with Mr. Cady's help perhaps made him a character."
