About This Item

Washington, 1824. 12pp. Modern half cloth and marbled boards, leather label. Very good. The first proposal for the building of a road to the Pacific Ocean by the federal government. The author advocates the construction of the road to open agricultural land, improve the fur trade, extend the Santa Fe trade, and establish the United States on the Pacific. With federal aid, Tarascon proposed to create the Missouri and Columbia Road Company, with many grandiose schemes written into its charter. GRAFF 4067. AMERICAN IMPRINTS 18939.
