About This Item
Chicago: The Bookfellows. Printed at the Torch Press, 1920. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. Private edition, 12mo, paper over boards, title label front cover, in plain dustjacket of same paper as used over covers. With a distinctive double page photogravure frontispiece by eccentric photographer, Lejaren a' Hiller (1880 - 1969). Hiller (born John Hiller in Milwaukee) was an artist and photographer, noted for his highly stylized tableaus, often featuring nubile women and androgynous young men. The frontispiece here depicts nude and semi-nude young men and women, some with laurel headwreaths in the Greco classic style, frollicking at a swimming hole. It is captioned "Once on a Time, Once on a Time." Printed at the Torch Press for The Orer of Bookfellows, a Chicago, private bibliophillic club, with the Bookfellow bookplate of Walter Burton, "who is Bookfellow No. 228" on the front pastedown. An unused copy, fine all around, including the paper dustjacket.
