Library bookplate and deaccession stamp on front endpapers otherwise clean internally (noting minor foxing throughout). Although marked Volume 1, this was the only volume published. Cloth. Contains various papers including Experiments on Gunpowder, Experiments made with Cannon and some attempts to improve Field Artillery, Experiments on Production of Air from Water, Intensities of Light emitted by Luminous Bodies, Experiments on Coloured Shadows, Conjectures respecting the Principles of the Harmony of Colours, Enquiry concerning Chemical Properties attributed to Light, etc. Thompson was well known for his technological innovation, and he studied gunpowder and illumination throughout his life.
