About This Item

London: T. Cadell, Jun. and W. Davies, 1802. Cloth. Very Good. xxiv, 390, [2] pages plus 14 engraved plates. 8vo. Brown library buckram with library label on spine. Library bookplate and deaccession stamp on front endpapers (US Patent Office surplus) otherwise clean internally (noting minor foxing throughout). Although marked Volume I, this was the only volume published under this title. Cloth. Contains various papers including Experiments on Gunpowder, Experiments made with Cannon and some attempts to improve Field Artillery, Experiments on Production of Air from Water, Intensities of Light emitted by Luminous Bodies, Experiments on Coloured Shadows, Conjectures respecting the Principles of the Harmony of Colours, Enquiry concerning Chemical Properties attributed to Light, etc. Thompson was well known for his technological innovation, and he studied gunpowder and illumination throughout his life. (DSB)

In 1798 the same publisher issued a collection of Rumford's works called "Essays Political Economical and Philosophical" but we are unclear how much overlap there is in content. Under this title, this is the only volume issued.
