About This Item

Softcover. Near Fine. Oblong octavo photo album. Flexible green cloth; "Photographs" in gilt on front cover. Approximately 220 photos, laid down on stiff grey sheets (30 or so are laid in loose). Many have captions written on verso, visible on those few that are loose or partially detached. The photos very in size, from 4.75" x 6.75" to 2.25" x 3.25" with a handful smaller. Most are very good and clear, with a few slightly overexposed. Some 120 of the snapshots show a group of well-dressed ladies and gentlemen on a vacation to Denver, Salt Lake City, and points west in 1902. They travel across the Ohio River and through St. Joseph, Missouri by train to Denver, Colorado. There is a small photo of the State Capitol in Denver, and one of the Brown's Palace Hotel. They take a sightseeing car, ride in horse drawn wagons and on donkeys to "Cave of the Winds," Williams Canyon and Garden of the Gods near Manitou Springs. The group visits Glenwood Springs, Salt Lake City, and Old Faithful at Yellowstone Park. They also tour the Presidio in California where they witness soldiers drilling, then go on to Puget Sound, Tacoma and Spokane. The travelers may have been from Pennsylvania or Maryland, as the later group of family photos (approximately 100) mention Gettysburg and Braddock Heights.
