About This Item

An album with pictures by Costas Balafas from his trips to Mount Athos from 1969 to 2001. The artist's purpose was to put together his own photographic testimony about the place and the people that inhabit it. Under his gaze the imposing monastery buildings bring to life the glory of the Byzantine Empire, while the life of the monks, with its own particular organisation, unchanged over the passing years, brings to his mind what they have sacrificed in the struggles of the Greek Nation. It also includes excerpts from interviews by Kostas Balafas, which were filmed by Angelos Papastefanou. Both the shooting of the photographs by Kostas Balafas, and the implementation of the book were made possible by the valuable contribution and assistance of Brother Ioustinos Simonopetritis, a monk of the Holy Monastery of Simonopetra.

// Hard cover, 28x24 cm, 276 pp., 180 B/W pictures; net weight 1640 gr.
