About This Item
William Pickering, 1836. FIRST EDITION. 8vo, pp. ix [x error], 321 [322 blank], contemporary half calf, spine ornately gilt in compartments, black morocco label, marbled boards; upper corners of pp. 39 - 42 defective, leather missing from corner of rear board, lower joints cracked. The views that Taylor expresses here were admubrated in his Saturday Evening (1832), but this work is both more speculative and more ambitious. Taylor is firmly empirical in his outlook and in the conduct of his argument, believing it to be susceptible of scientific confirmation. This Pickering imprint is not listed in Geoffrey Keynes' William Pickering (1924).
