Paul Hamlyn, London, 1959. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/Fair. Illustrator: Pablo Picasso. preface by Jean Cocteau and list of illustrations. At the beginning of the text there are a few black and white reproductions of very early artwork of Picasso's; then, the aforementioned 28 coloured plates of other artwork. Light blue coloured cloth covered boards with silver coloured decoration to the panels with light blue coloured titles to the front panel and red and silver coloured titles to the back strip. Illustrated dustwrapper, again by Picasso, with silver, black and blue coloured titles to the front panel and black and white coloured titles to the back strip. 37 paintings from the years 1905 to 1922 of Pablo Picasso. Rubbing of the book corners and back strip edges. The lower book edges have become somewhat stain. A few foxing spots to the top edge of the front panel. Light browning of the text block edges and age toning of the pages. Chipping of the dustwrapper corners and to the top edge of the rear panel. There is a 1.75" tear to the top left hand corner of the front panel with associated creasing; a previous owner has placed tape to the verso of the dustwrapper to support the nastier tears. The tape has left residue to the verso and has started to be visible to the front edge. first edition by this publisher. Size: Square Quarto.
