About This Item
New York, New York: Crown Publishers, Inc., 1983. Revised Edition 5th or later Printing. Hardcover. G+/VG-/Good. Comprehensive overview of Black history in the United States, in a book that has become the standard bearer of this history for both young readers & adults. A groundbreaking book when it was first published in 1956 under the title, "A Pictorial History of the Negro in America,'' this is the Fifth Revised Edition from 1983, retitled after Hughes' death, in 380 pages with 1,200+ illustrations throughout. A small 4to (8.75" x 11.25"), this oversized hardcover has a gray-tan cloth-covered spine stamped in bright gilt, with matte black paper over boards. Condition is Good+/VG-: generally very clean & unmarked save for a bit of highlighting on page 5 only & former owner's name in large marker inside front cover. Binding straight & strong, pages creamy white. All corners show bumping, down to underlying boards in some places, with a tad of fraying to cloth at both ends of spine. The unclipped DJ is Good, with a few unclosed, long tears, chipping & rubbing to all extremities. Nicely protected now against further damage in clear mylar cover free! Our photos depict the exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, Weekends, & holidays ship very next business day. SORRY: book is too large for expedited domestic or any international shipping without preapproval of extra postage (at lease double per USPS rates).
