New York: Mahlon Day , 1825. Chapbook for children, measuring only 3.5 x 2.25 inches, contained in a custom made, half leather clamshell box. It lists New York as having 150,000 inhabitants. The publisher Mahlon Day was located at 376 Pearl St., New York, from 1825 to 1833. There are very few copies in institutional holdings. A copy sold on the open market in 2003 that being the Dr. Rosenbach copy with his bookplate. This copy is preserved in a custom made clamshell box. Before Baedeker perfected the vacation travel guide, some innovative authors published individual city guidebooks to select cities, known as "strangers' guides". Aimed primarily at business travelers, they typically list the roads and primary establishments in a city. A few of these guides were also published as giveaways for children. They often were in the form of little chapbooks and were highly ephemeral. Few survive to this day. . First Edition.

Paginates: wraps, blanks, 48. Illustrations included in pagination. Complete as issued. This edition is uncommon. WorldCat locates ~15 copies. See OCLC: 34635134 & 22449258; Rosenbach 681.
