Plain brown paper over boards with printed paper spine labels with title: Londiniana or Reminiscences of the British Capital by E.W. Brayley. Publisher's advertisements on two pages following text in vol. 4. The plates include views, maps, and plans; they were bound in following the table of contents and list of plates in each volume, rather than facing the specified pages of text. Former owner's inscription at head of each title page: Frank Tayler July 1886. Tayler erased the name of the previous owner, which can faintly be seen under his name. In Near Fine- Condition: paper starting to separate over some joints, with slight loss of paper at joints and at head of spines; otherwise a clean and crisp set of this wonderfully illustrated guide to London.

Fold out map at rear, diagrams (most in the run of the text) and crisply-reproduced photographs, all as called for. With three appendices and an index. Philby's final volume of his account of his time in Arabia in 1917 and 1918. "I was, I think, the very last European to sojourn in the Wahhabi Arabia before the advent of the motor-car". He offers a view of the country, and of Ibn Saud himself, some years before the coronation of Ibn Saud and the establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Condition notes: Boards bumped, internally clean, crisp and sound; the map and photographs are in excellent condition. This copy misses being classed as Very Good because of staining to the rear board, and some fraying of the joint between that board and the spine. Photographs available.

The official second edition appeared a year later. Re-bound in modern half calf with gilt spine labels and marbled boards. An ink shelf number is handwritten on the verso of both titles (with miniscule bleed through on the title of volume II). A shelf number is also written on the bottom margin of p. 101 in both volumes, and on the final blanks in volume II. The map in volume II is re-hinged and contains a tear (professionally sealed) along the inner margin and crossing one printed corner tip. Walter Colton's 'Deck and Port' was an important historical account of the post-war voyages of the USS Congress. Following the War of 1812, this heavy frigate ship toured the western hemisphere, visiting ports in Brazil, Peru, Chile, and Hawaii. This voyage from The Gulf of Mexico, around South America ended in California.

Colton describes botanical and scientific discoveries near the equator, including animals and weather phenomena. However, the most interesting topics in this book include his perspective on the treatment of slaves and slave-trading in Brazil. He encounters religious ceremonies and rites, Indian doctors, ghost ships, and many more oddities.

This book also has one of the earliest descriptions of surfing. Colton states,
