Edinburgh: David Douglas, 1881. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good. Limited Edition of 500 copies and the negatives from which the plates were printed have been destroyed. Large 8vo, unpaginated with pp110 complete with title page with tissue guard and 54 b/w plates of woodcuts by Reid with corresponding page of descriptive text. Hardcover no dust jacket. Original publishers binding of decorative red cloth with black and gilt to front board and gilt titles to spine. Binding in good condition with some shelf wear to top and tail of spine along with some fading to gilt, the boards are a little mucky and have a few small marks. Inside binding is cracked in several places but holding perfectly well. Foxing and aging to frontis and title page however all other pages and plates with full edge gilt in lovely clean and bright condition. A nice copy of a scarce title.
