In soli sei anni di lavoro (è morto giovanissimo nel 1963, all'età di trent'anni) Manzoni, con la sua smisurata creatività, è riuscito a stravolgere tutte le nozioni consolidate dell'arte, passando da un approccio concettuale (che prefigurava in certi lavori il movimento dell'Arte Povera) a una rappresentazione corporale (soffi d'artista, sculture viventi, merda in scatola, ecc.) che anticipava di dieci anni le tematiche della Body art.
