New York: The Century Company, 1898. Illustrated by George Woolliscroft (1854-1920, Frederick (b.1855) and Louis Rhead (1857-1926) cover, borders and full page illustrations. First thus edition. c.1678. Rebound by KTB of Old Working Books & Bindery mustard cloth around restored topboard illustration, black stamped spine, new headbands and Mulberry Papers floral endpapers. 4to (36cm). pp. xix, 184. Near Fine/No jacket, as issued. Each text page has one of 7 repetitive border designs. Bunyan wrote this epic Christian allegory from prison because he refused to stop preaching salvation through Jesus Christ. Ironically Bunyan died traveling on horseback in a blizzard to help the man who imprisoned him. Also the first novel written in English, it was later translated into over 200 languages and has never been out of print..
