From the dustjacket flap: "The first white man to sail into the Delaware Bay was Henry Hudson who anchored inside the Capes for a night in 1609. He did not explore the Bay most likely because he had no pilot. Since then pilots have been sought to conduct ships safely past treacherous shoals and shallows. Knowledge and experience are more necessary today than ever in delivering ships safely to their destinations up river." Profusely illustrated. .
