London: Nicholas Vane, 1965. Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. 1st Edition. SECOND PRINTING of First UK Edition 1965. The UK edition has 28 more photos than the USA edition. Original blue boards with gilt lettering spine. The book is in clean condition with no fading, no rubbing, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, no foxing, tight binding. Probably never used. The dust jacket has rubbing at spine ends, no tears, no chips. The book measures 223mm tall x 140mm, and has 199 page, 52 b/w photos, 2 maps, EP map, index. Account of Hillary's 1960 Makalu expedition, experimenting & climbing without supplemental oxygen. Author suffered severe frostbite after experiencing a blood clot in his lung. Author, Nevison, & Sherpa Annulu came within 400 feet of the summit before the author was stricken by pulmonary thrombosis. Interesting chapters on the hell of surviving frostbite and amputations.
