Initially published in twelve parts between 1858 and 1860, this is the first book edition.Robert Smith Surtees (1805-1864) was an English editor and novelist, most widely known for the cockney character of Jorrocks. Illustrated with eleven colour plates by John Leech, as well as in-text illustrations throughout. Lacking the final plate.Complete with publisher's advertisements to the rear.A wonderful copy of this popular work. In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally generally smart; a little worn to the head and tail of the spine. Ink stains to the front board. Ownership bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, generally firmly bound, with front hinge a little strained. Pages are occasionally spotted. Good
