First edition with illustrations by John Leech: a classic of Victorian sporting literature. Surtees was an aficionado of the hunt and failed solicitor, who began writing his Sporting Magazine in 1831. Immensely popular in the Victorian era he was the progenitor of the "Sporting Novel".
