Goldstone had this copy enclosed in a custom green cloth dustjacket with a small leather title on spine and gilt lettering including the words "First Edition 1879" to bottom cloth spine DJ. Copy and DJ are enclosed in a custom made green morocco slipcase with green matching cloth of the DJ. Good. , limited to 300 [9.25x6.25in]; 68 pp., [2], six leaves of halftone portraits of Jayhawkers and illustrated scenes; Brown stiff paper wrappers with gilt stamped lettering on front, brown endpapers, stapled binding, covers extend beyond text block; Age wear to paper covers with creases and chips on all edges and corners, missing 1/4" bottom spine, several small stain and ink spots on covers faded and gilt lettering dulled, offset of 1920 newspaper article tipped in on the death of Stephens and prior owner ink signature on front leaf, oval stain on upper fore edge of first 12 pages, age toning of text throughout; Overall condition of this type and material quality is Very Good. Four-color offset lithograph on paper. [28⅛ x 23¼ in. (71.4 x 59.2 cm)], one of a printing of 4,000. From a series of four works titled "Column" the others were named Column no. 2 (Picasso 90), Column no. 3 (Chile-F), and Column no. 4 (IB-affair). The title refers to the work's likeness to newspaper columns: full of facts, but a colorfully cartooned map of textual facts. The artist's signature is reproduced in the lower right. Discoloration to white edges, else very good. Still very pleasant to the eye. All posters are presently stored between acid free boards, flat, under weight. They will be shipped rolled, in tubes.

Also includes poems by Bret Harte, Helen Hunt Jackson, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, George Sterling, Bayard Taylor, Edwin Markham, Robert Louis Stevenson, Joaquin Miller, Robinson Jeffers, Harriet Monroe, et al. (Refreshingly, it would appear that around 40% of the poems are by women.) 12mo green cloth boards stamped in gilt and yellow; 153 pages including index. Bright and near fine with just a touch of minor wear; in good, somewhat stained and edge-worn dust jacket with large chip from base of spine extending slightly to front and back panels but nonetheless bright and attractive. Scarce to rare in dust jacket.

This is a promotional urging Mexico to approve the route which was to connect the Texas lines with Mexico, then to Presidio and thence to either the Pacific or to the Gulf of Mexico.
