London: J. Johnson, 1808. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. Nesbit, Clennel and Branston. Edition of this 1808 printing. In good plus brown patterned leather with gilt decorative border; spine with gilt horizontal lines and black title fields with gilt titles. The boards are straight and tight, unmarked, edge-worn and ends and sides of spine worn. Brown, black and white marbled end papers - unmarked. Green, red and brown marbled cut edges are unmarked. The text pages are very firm and flat, slightly tanned - good plus condition. Illustrated with b/w engravings by Nesbit, Clennel, and Branston. Name of previous owner on prelim, which shows through on other side of page. The title page has a narrow piece off the top removed. No annotated.

London : J Johnson, 1798 A nice early 2 volume set in full tree calf bindings with marbled endpapers. Classed as 'fair' because the bindings have rubbing to the spines and have lost their title and volume labels. Vol II has a small piece lacking from the base of the spine. The bindings are sound however and the boards, with age wear, are in good condition. Internally there is a bookplate of Marg. Walker to the front pastedown of each volume. Vol I: 252pp, half title, title page, Preface by John Newton, 1782, contents listing; text is clean, light brown spot to upper edge of p 243 - blank end leaves; small paper repair margin p 188. Vol II: 248 pp, half title and title page, advertisement, contents listing; some staining on p 176-7 - presumably where a page marker was left in.

Full diced calf sympathetically rebacked in calf with dual spine labels in black and gilt, xvi, 430 + vi, [2], 420 pages. Extremities rubbed, some crackling along edges of original covers, some light chipping to spine ends and around the edges of the spine labels, vertical surface crack to the spine of volume II, joints/hinges good, text blocks sound, pages clean with some minor offsetting of the plates onto the text pages opposite, a bit of foxing to the margins of some plates, pages very clean and free from names or other markings. . Hard Cover. Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
