Aldershot: Scolar Press, 1991. 1st edition. Hardback. Octavo. [viii prelims] 249 pages. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: "To John, / from Charles, / with much affection, / and no little trepidation / in offering so modest a discussion / to your judgement. / 16. iv. 1991". The recipient has gone through the text making small ink corrections and marks in the margins, while the rear endpapers have been used for several neat pages of notes. An academic's working or review copy. Good in Good jacket. Front board bumped in the top corner. Text a bit dull along its top, with a tiny mark. Jacket creased around its spine ends and in its front top corner; both faces are rubbed and have a few small marks.
