(Boston), Volume 2 only (of 2 volumes), 4 1/2 x 6 5/8 inches tall hardbound, marbled paper-covered boards over leather spine and tips, v, 304 pp. Covers rubbed and edgeworn, especially to tips, with a 1/2-inch chip to the top of the backstrip. Inside, mild age toning to paper. A couple of pages with light stains. 1 1/2-inch closed tear to rear free-endpaper. Otherwise, a very good copy. Contains: The Fan, a Poem in Three Books; The Shepherd's Week, in Six Pastorals; Acis and Galatea, a Serenata in Two Parts; 12 Epistles (letters); 5 Eclogues; Songs and Balads; 3 Elegies, 6 Tales and 12 'Miscellanies.' John Gay (1685-1732) was an English poet and dramatist and member of the Scriblerus Club. He is best remembered for The Beggar's Opera (1728), a ballad opera.
