Hardcover. 24mo. 14.5cm, xii, 128p., 8 engraved plates with tissue guards, ornamental head & tail pieces, notes, marbled endpapers, a.e.g., full corrugated morocco, bevelled edges, ruled blind stamping & decoration, inner gilt dentelle decoration, raised bands with panel decoration, gilt spine title, cover & spine edges rubbed, bookplate on front paste down, former owner's inscription on front paste down, in fine (signed) bindings. ~ A finely bound edition of Thomas Gray's works with bindings signed by Macdonald and Sons. The book was printed at the University Press, Cambridge by Welch, Bigelow & Company. Birket Foster first illustrated Gray's Poems in 1855. This edition includes sixteen poems including "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard", eleven posthumous poems and fragments, and three extracts. The ornamental decorations are by W. Harry Rogers. A very attractive copy.
