Typed poems from Robert Frost, the Rosetti's, Dickinson, Hardy, Sandburg and Untermeyer himself.

Louis Untermeyer (1885 - 1977) was a mostly self-taught Poet, but a fierce promoter of the craft, anthologist, editor and appointed the 16th Consultant of Poetry to the Library of Congress in 1961. He befriended many celebrity authors including Arthur Miller and Robert Frost. An incident in 1951 caused him to be investigated by the House Committee on Un-American Activities and become blacklisted by the entertainment industry, including being removed from the television show, "What's My Line" "Poetry is founded on surprise: the surprise of recognizing that was there but something we failed to notice. It is the shock of finding the familiar in the strange, the strange in the familiar... A poem does not state, it acts -- and acs more swiftly than the liveliest prose. A poem is the shortest emotional distance between two points." (Louis Untermeyer).
