4 Volumes bound in gilt decorated half-leather by Bayntun (Riviére), Bath, England. Overall 1806 pages.With 32 full-page illustrations (etchings) by William Hole and 11 leaves of facsimiles.
This is a very representative copy of the 'Centenary Edition' of the poetry of Robert Burns. Bound by the famous Bayntun (Riviére) bindery in Bath in decorative half leather and cloth covered boards. The spines have five raised bands, gilt lettering on morocco labels and gilt tooling to compartments. Top edges gilt. Bindings remain generally clean, some ligth surface streaks to leather on some boards. Joints rubbed,some cracking mainly to upper joints resulting in a little movement to boards, others remain firm. Corners showing a little wear and bumping, small loss to leather on two tips. Marbled endpapers with binder's signature to top corner verso of front free endpapers. Half-titles present.Title pages printed in black and red, dated 1897 in Vol. IV only. Text-blocks firm, pages generally very clean although off-setting from plates to adjoining pages.

No place. No date. Circa 1870. ILLUSTRATED MANUSCRIPT. Oblong 8vo. (9.4 x 5.5 inches). Longfellow's popular eearly poem, An April day, written in a neat hand on 12 thick paper leaves. Ten of the leaves are beautifully illustrated in watercolour by an unknown but very skilled artist. Bound in attractive nineteenth century full red morocco. Spine with multiple gilt ruled lines and three raised bands. Both boards have a highly decorative gilt roll and ruled lines border around a double ruled and corner decorated blind tooled panel. The front board has the title and author lettered in gilt. Gilt inner dentelles and yellow coated endpapers. All edges gilt. A little rubbing to the extremities but overall a beautiful volume in very good condition.

These are somewhat rubbed with significant rubbing and loss to the spine. Written number to the front cover. The date c.1750 is printed on the remnant of a catalogue label stuck to the front cover. The impressions of the engravings are somewhat are somewhat blurred. P. 41, repeated on p. 76, the illustrations are not woodcuts but metalcuts. The shape of the heads of the nails with which the plates were mounted on wood are printed on many of them. A nice example. 86 (2) pp. 205 x 165 mm (8 x 6½ inches).
