About This Item

This is an introduction to the study of political parties and party systems. It focusses primarily on liberal deocracies and th eapproach is a comparative one. The book's aim is to explain to students of politics how and why parties and party systems differ from one country to another.
However, it also seeks to provide a more detailed understanding of party politics in five particular countries.
Most of the chapters are divided into two sections. In the first section general themes and arguments about a topic are introduced, and examples from a large number of countries are discussed in relation to it. In the second section, particular attention is paid to five of the largest liberal
democracies - Britain, France, Germany, Japan, and the United States.

About The Canon Bookshop

The Canon Bookshop is a retailer of secondhand nonfiction, academic, specialist books, antique books and collectables. I am an academic writer based in Haworth, West Yorkshire, otherwise known as 'Brontëville', the small town known as the home of the literary family. The collection was begun by my late father, who began it in the book-town of Hay-on-Wye, where he developed his book collecting skills working for 'The King of Hay' Richard Booth.

I stock predominately humanities, arts and social studies, from philosophy, politics, international relations, psychology and theology, and art theory, literary criticism and media, but I also have sciences and some fiction, including a small collection of Welsh writer Rhys Davies, including many personalised signed copies he gave as gifts to friends.

All books are secondhand but in good, solid condition.
