About This Item
Evansville, IN: Herbert W. Simpson, 1947. First Edition. First edition. [16] pp. Bound in publisher's stapled wraps. Very Good with a faint cup ring to the front wrap, a few other very light stains to wraps but contents in very nice shape.
The first book publication of an essay that first appeared in the magazines Horizons in the UK and The New Republic in the US, "Printed as a Christmas Keepsake for the Typophiles" according to the title page. It has inspired nearly as many writers as Orwell's famous novels, as a concise statement of a marriage of both linguistic and political principles.
