Shepard's original illustrations for the Pooh Books. Colour illustrated paperback binding with white and black coloured titles to the front panel and blue and black coloured titles to the back strip. In this book the author proves that " ... all of Western philosophy – from the cosmologists of ancient Greece to the existentialism in this century – may be found in Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner. Reminding us of Nietzsche's doctrine of Great Recurrence, Williams throws fresh light on Pooh' circular pursuit of the Woozle – not to mention the Empirical test of a pot of honey, right to the bottom." – from the rear panel blurb. Minor rubbing of the book edges with light tanning of the text block edges and pages. First edition of the work in this format and binding, and/or set or series. Synopsis

Pooh and the Philosophers is a book by John Tyerman Williams, published by Dutton, 1996, using A.A. Milne's character Winnie the Pooh and a part of the "Wisdom of Pooh" series. It is not a fictional storybook like many of the Pooh novels but tells of how all of Western philosophy from the last 3000 years is the long preparation for Winnie the pooh. The book is both humorous and intellectual whether the author intended it to be or not.
