About This Item
London: Lovell Reeve, 1858 A very good copy of the 1st edition in the original decorative cloth binding with 20 hand coloured plates. Part of Lovell Reeve's Popular Natural History series where a number of authors were chosen to introduce their subjects to young people in a way that would give a good foundation while inspiring them to study further. This copy is in the original binding which is very bright and clean. The gilt decoration on the front board is slightly dulled. Spine ends have light pulling and there is light wear to corners. Contents complete with hand coloured frontispiece and 19 further plates. 1 page ad for the Literary Gazette at the rear. There is an ink inscription at the front free endpaper. Top and side page edges rough with the occasional very small edge tear. Contents are clean with light spotting which occasionally affects plates. Light marking to endpapers.
