F’cap 12mo in half-sheets; 4pp. publisher’s advertisements at end, probably printed conjugate with the half-title and title, which are on slightly thicker paper than the text; pp.xvi+319+[i (blank)]+4; buff boards printed with rules and lettering in black on sides and spine; a.e uncut. Re-backed preserving the original backstrip, but with stains from old sellotape repair to spine and adjacent edges of boards; boards dusty, corners bruised, and one a little chipped (not approaching printed area); internally fine. Rather uncommon in the original boards. The ‘illustrations’ are verbal, not pictorial. All books listed by Robert Temple are first editions unless otherwise stated.
