RICHARD PEARSON, M.D. A Practical Synopsis of the Materia Alimentaria and the Materia Medica, London: Baldwin and John Murray, 1808. Octavo, new edition (Pearson used a pseudonym for a version released 10 years earlier), pp. viii, 535, 1 (ad), brown paper-covered boards half bound in brown calf with gilt lettering and rules to spine. Surprisingly rare: not in Garrison-Morton, OCLC and the NUC turn up no copies. Preface says the book is intended to give "a precise account of such substances from the Animal, Vegetable, or Mineral Kingdom, as are used either for food or medicine." Covers nutrition and remedies for various maladies. Condition of this book: Very good with a few stains to the covers and the fore edge, scattered minor foxing throughout. Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact.
