Contemporary marbled sheep, smooth spine decorated and ruled in gilt, brown morocco gilt spine label, marbled endpapers and edges. A couple of small, widely- spaced foxing spots. A fine copy. Housed in a custom quarter brown morocco clamshell.
Schumpeter lists this first edition as one of the four principle textbooks of physiocrat orthodoxy. 'The Abbé Nicolas Baudeau (1739-1792) began as an enemy [of physiocracy] but had his day of Damascus in 1766 and from then on proved a most useful popularizer and controversialist as well as an efficient editor (p. 225). The book is written in clear and simple language and met with great success as a general introduction to this important school of economic thought. Higgs states that this is Baudeau's best work.
