London: Printed For H. Knaplock, 1738. Two volumes, collation, x,359, [1], 36,236,213,[1],90, iv,323,357,156,151pp, 23pp index. A third volume was published in the same year?, printed by J. Walthoe. Books measure 14 x 9 inches. Both volumes rebacked retaining the original period boards, raised bands, leather title labels. Boards light rubbed, some scuff marking. Both bindings in very good clean firm condition. Internally, Law society bookplate on endpaper, small section of worming to margin of about 10 pages, single hole to margin of 50 pages. Pages in very good clean condition throughout. A very nice clean set, in very attractive strurdy bindings.. Full Leather. Very Good Plus. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall.

Leather Cambridge panel binding with gold trim and blank impressing. Raised spines and red edges to text blocks. Corners bumped. Some small chips elsewhere. Bookplates on front pastedowns for Charles Lewes Dashwood. Hinges repaired. New spine labels and endpapers. Paper very clean and bright except some damp stains to upper corners of first pages of vol. II. Closed tear in p. III of vol. II. Vol. III has no date. Title continues: "Written and Published by the most Eminent Divines of the Church of England, chiefly in the Reign of King James II." "Preservative against Popery" is the name commonly given to this collection of anti-Catholic works published in 1738 by Edmund Gibson. Gibson (1669 1748) was a divine who served as Bishop of Lincoln and Bishop of London, as well as being a jurist and antiquary.…
