Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - 1922

London & Toronto, New York: J M Dent & Sons Ltd; E P Dutton and Co, 1922 A very good copy in 1800's style half leather binding with 16 colour printed plates by Charles Brock. The publishers, Dent & Co, published several editions of Austen's works from the 1890's on, with various illustrations styles. This edition uses illustrations by Brock, first used in 1907, and well suited to Austen's writing. The original binding has been rebacked to provide a new spine and corners and is in near fine condition. The spine has gilt title and author labels, gilt-lined raised bands and blind stamped decoration. The original red cloth is retained. Top page edges are gilt and new plain endpapers have been added. Contents with half title, frontispiece, title page, and text with 15 further illustrations. Internally in very good clean condition with the occasional light spot or mark and light spotting to the verso of the frontispiece. There is some spotting to the foredge.
