London: W. Strange, 1844. Soft cover. Good/No Jacket. sm booklet 11 X 7cm. A fascinating collection of facts published in mid Victorian Britain with amusing vignettes reflecting the prevailing attitudes of the times. Good, only, in printed paper wraps which are worn at proximities and with damage top outer corner of top wrap. Apart from the usual monthly lists of daily occurrences the booklet also has: a List of Useful Articles; A Chronology; Scripture Extracts; Things Worthy of Remembrance; Domestic Hints; Teetotalism (with vignettes); Statistics; A Farmer's Calendar and some adverts for popular remedies at end of booklet. It also has a section entitled "Varieties" consisting of jokes in the style of the time (with vignettes) one of which refers to Ballooning and another a stereotypical racist jibe at African Americans. Uncommon - with one copy, only, cited in the online COPAC which appears to have an incorrect number of paqes specified in its entry. My copy consists of 2 sections - one 8vo and one 12mo with pagination starting from 21 and finishing at 46. It would appear that the description in COPAC was done in a hurry and the describer simply assumed that there were 47 pages instead of collating the whole publication. Any further clarification would be most welcome.
