About This Item

New York: St. Martin's, 1983. Very good (light foxing on page edges and on a few pages but the interior is bright and clean otherwise, with especially bright and vivid illustrations) in near fine dust jacket (a few faint foxing spots on the inside of the jacket). The author describes and discusses the historical background to the Gagarin illustrations. The story is a personal one of a true love story involving Gargarin and an young Irish woman, but the drawings and Brophy's prose sketch out the historical setting of Rome in the 1830s.. 1st American edition. Hard Cover. Illus. by Gregoire Gagarin.
