Germany -- Politics and government -- 16th-18th centuries. § Carsten, Francis Ludwig (1862-1923) was a German historian and professor of history at the University of Kiel. He was born in Potsdam, Germany, in 1862 and spent most of his career in academia, specializing in German history during the early modern period. One of Carsten's notable works is the book "Princes and Parliaments in Germany, From the Fifteenth to the Eighteenth Century," which explores the political and social developments in the German lands during this period. The book examines the relationship between the various German princes and the imperial government, as well as the emergence of representative institutions such as the Imperial Diet and the estates. Carsten's work is characterized by its meticulous research and its focus on the institutional and constitutional history of the German lands. He was highly regarded for his scholarship and was considered one of the foremost experts on German history of his time. Unfortunately, Carsten's life and career were cut short by his untimely death at the age of 61. Despite this, his contributions to the field of German history have continued to be recognized and appreciated, and his works remain influential and widely read today.
