1812. Fair +. 1 printed form with handwritten information (31 x 20 cm.), folded. Benjamin Eaton, yeoman of Sedgwick, Hancock County, Mass., on 9 July 1812 sold for $200 to Enoch Hale and James Seavey, Jr., lot #14 in the town of Sedgwick of about 100 acres. Signed by Benjamin Eaton, witnesses Sam Holden and Enoch Trussell, justice of the peace Thomas Doyle, and Hancock County Register of Deeds B. Hall. Sedgwick is one of six townships, each six miles square, established in 1761 by Massachusetts. Hancock County is in Maine, which was part of Massachusetts until 1820, when it was allowed to secede and form a separate state as part of the Missouri Compromise. The seller was probably Benjamin Eaton (1773-1838), who was born and died in Sedgwick.
